The Dark Crown

"I will show you the power of a God."

The Dark Crown is a fantasy, set at the tail end of the old days,
old era, where Kingdoms still existed, and magical powers still thrived. World
filled with wonders and magic, danger and adventure, it is up to you to create a story of another
figure, who is bound to carve their way onto the list of legends.

Wield powers beyond imagination, which are based on a very unique conceptual system, or don't.
Save the world, or destroy it. Make friends, or make enemies. Become a farmer, tailor, ruler, a hero, a villain,
a God. The choice is yours, and the world is your oyster, so you can do as you please.
That is the whole point of this work.

You are able to choose almost whichever path imaginable. Follow the story, or go the opposite way.
Create yourself in many, many different ways, choosing almost any ending one could possibly want. Make this
story fir you, and not the other way around.

Want an epic adventure? You can have it. Want to make it into a bit of a different take on a slice of life?
You can do that too. Want to be an upstanding citizen? Or want to become the most
dangerous individual around? We have it all.

Be just another human on this Earth, or solidify yourself as one of the most powerful beings in history,
everything is allowed. You can achieve anything.

Now, for some additional info, after the sales pitch:

This work aims to be one of the biggest pieces of interactive fiction up to date. I mean, it's literally
going to be a textual version of an open world game, so yeah. And also, I strive to give
the option so the reader can, almost literally, do anything within the story, and create it so there are
almost exclusively unique stories created at the end, for each reader.

Though, I should note that this work is also striving to be immersive in a way, that characters won't be as
compliable, so to speak. Most characters will be straight, some will be gay, some bi, and only a handful
of them will be gender selectable. Still, there will be more than enough RO's (10+ is the current
estimate, but I can confidently say that that number will grow as the story progresses), so there
will be something, or rather someone, for anyone.

Also, some characters you may meet, you will meet, or you may never cross paths with. It will
all depend on the choices made, but I'll give you a warning in advance. There
are multiple invisible things that will be tracked, such as how many days have passed,
among others, which will also have a big say in things, regardless of what you decide. Specific time of day,
or after so many days, all of that needs to be taken into account, because other characters, along with the
whole world, exist aside MC. This will all be better seen in details, and how things happen around,
while reading/playing.

For some, you'll be able to learn about by what's happening around you, while others you
won't even know exist, if you don't follow the breadcrumbs. As I said, there will be a ton of routes,
which will intertwine, so you can hop from one to another, but the time will more forward,
and if you don't take the chance when offered, some of them you won't be able to visit during the
playthrough.

Let's return the interactivity back into interactive fiction. This one should do just that.

For now, it's on Itch, but in future, that will change. Though that's a pretty distant future.

12.05.2026 - Next time you see me update here, the game will
be out. And I can't waaaaait!!!!!
There is only a couple of things left for me to do and write, and that should be something that I can
do in a day or two, meaning that I'll probably publish the game even before the next week starts.
So I thank everyone once again, who have stuck around and patiently waited for this work of mine. You
guys are the true mvps.
And to anyone new, glad to have you on board.
This one will be for the books, mark my works.

11.05.2026 - Fucking hell, I just realised something amazing!
As I was working on the remaining passages, I just realised that I've actually done almost everything
that was left to be done xD. I though there was a whole ass route left, when it is only a couple of
passages! Which is something that I should be able to do in a couple days time, since the text adaptations
should be relatively minimal. Which is honestly amazing!!!
Anyhow, now that I've come to know that bit of information, I'll just quickly add something
that I've said previously, quite some time ago now.
While this game will have a non binary option, I am telling you right now that whoever chooses that one
won't have much fun, and should be prepared for that. Sure, you'll get uniqueness for it, but due to me
staying true to the time period and the state of the world within the story, yeah, that won't fly with
practically anyone. I'm just giving a disclaimer in advance, since I don't recall putting one in the
game itself.
But yeah, that is all for now. I'm returning to my writing and coding, so I can, finaly, publish this
bad boy. Fucking amazing xD.
Past me is as much of a genius as is the current me xD

10.05.2026 - As I'm coding combinations in, and am nearing the
release date of tdc (sooner rather than later, we're almost there folks!), I wanted to give few general
bits of information.
First would be that this WIP version, is what I consider an Alpha version of the game. Meaning, for the final
version, when it is released in full (when fully completed), the code will be changed, and so will be the game.
Biggest chunck of it will stay the same, but there will be more things added, more routes, more options, more
everything. And the reason for this will be explained later on, but for now, this is something that
should be kept in mind, because the game will be improved as time goes.
Second, the game will be released before I fully optimise some settings code (stuff like text size and a few other
things), because it can be perfectly played without those tweaks, since they are not game breaking or anything.
And conserning the code that I have implemented, the save files shouldn't be effected, or corrupted, as it tends
to happen with updates to the game. Now, I am not sure how effective that code is, because I'll best test it when
I start adding things and seeing if the game will change just those, or what will happen, but yeah, so I wouldn't
drag the release more than I absolutely have to, that's why I'll release the Prologue first, and polish it after.
Keep that in mind, and I'll be seeing you soon again, for some more additional informations, and hopefully an
actual release date/idea. Which is soon, that much I know for a fact.

29.04.2026 - One tiny update for now.
Only one more "main route" is left, because the one before that took so, much, time, that it's not even
fun xD. But yeah, I'm starting with that one now, and after that, it should be smooth sailing.
I thank everyone for their patience. May is the month of release, that much I know.

14.04.2026 - Slightly above 350k words, I have done four more routes today,
and will probably finish the two last "main" hobby routes tomorrow, meaning that I'll start with the code
connecting, which will go much faster. Sure, I'll also have to add some text adaptations, because some things
happen or don't happen in those routes, and I have to account for that, but all in all, as soon as I start
with that, the game should be published relatively quickly. I'm not going to give an exact date yet,
because I've been proven by now that when it comes to tdc, I can't really be trusted, but I'd say that sooner
rather than later is the time for it's publishing.
I'll also be talking a bit more on here about how the game currently is, what is missing and what will be
added, but more on all that later. Everything will have to wait, because there's still a bit that I can do
today, so the whole thing goes that much faster.

09.04.2026 - 337 900 words currently. Honestly, I am having fun with
all these hobbies, and while I am creating them faster than I originally thought, there is still a good few left,
though I still have finished a good couple too. And yeah, they may seem short, text wise, in comparison to other
different "routes" you can take, they do have major roles to play, and not only detail wise, but also as a sort of
a door for some other routes later on. Such as possible jobs for MC, if MC decides to have a job, and being
recognised by other characters from the world because of their skills. So yeah, the only reason why these events may
not seem like much right now, is only due to the fact that this is still only prologue, despite the fact that the
estimated word count will be anywhere between 350k and 400k words. Yeah, I know, I'm insane, but trust me, tdc will
be out pretty fast, the moment I'm done with these hobbies.

05.04.2026 - I like how I tend to forget that life happens, and that there
are these things called "others" and "responsibilities". Anyhow, all this to say that, while yes, I am making
nice progress with the hobbies (aka "final main route thingy"), I am also not going fast as I would have liked.
Reason being, family birthdays, preparations for Easter, final health check ups, all that good stuff.
And on top of that, having 13 starting hobbies is no small feat, at least not in The Dark Crown, for I will not
go half assed way about it, destroying the integrity for the sake of me doing it faster. No sir, I will not.
That is all I wanted to say for this update. And to add that you can trust me when I say, that tdc is coming
closer to its release by the minute. So stay tuned for more.

02.04.2026 - Another relatively small update.
So, I'm doing the last "main route option thingy", and I should be able to finish that one in another day or two I
wager. After that, comes the easier part, which is connecting with code and slight variations and adaptations
pf the text. There's also something I'm debating with myself, which I'll probably take out, but more
on that when the time for it comes. I'll give explanation for it all, worry not. All in all, that is the current
progress that's being made, and soon enough, I will finally release tdc to the world. I honestly can't wait :D

29.03.2026 - Alright, tomorrow, I should be completely done with the
one of the two "last remaining main routes." After that, I'll get on working on the final one, which is going
to go fast, but will branch a bit, because it regards MC's hobbies, and it's safe to say that there will be
quite a few. Though, worry not, for I will see to it that that one is done in fast fashion, so I can do the final
variable connectings and all that jazz. We are definitely in the final run, when in comes to writing Prologue, and
The Dark Crown will be out sooner rather than later. At least that's the plan, so here's to hoping.

26.03.2026 - Smaller update with this one. So, due to some health check ups
and whatnot, the progress has been a touch smaller, since I've been busy with all that stuff behind the scenes.
Still, progress is being made, and I am around half way done with that route, one of the last two "main ones",
and it should be going much faster now. You know, since I have done these check ups, and have some more
time on my hands. All in all, no worries, and I am sorry that I'm making you wait this long. What I thought
was going to go fast, and be up by now, just keeps delaying itself, due to many factors, but rest assured,
it is going to be released soon. I'll really step on it, to make it true.

22.03.2026 - Progress update everybody! So, I wanted to inform you that there are two
"main" route, path thingies, and that I've started working on one of those, and have made nice
little progress. It already started to branch into three paths, and I have some general
idea in which direction I want them to go. Still, I don't know how long those will be,
but probably like the rest of the routes done. So I'd say, in around couple days time, I should finish
that route, and then move to the last. After that, it's mostly connecting with code,
and some adjustments to the text, so yeah, that will be quicker. We're sitting at 310.516 words
without code, and a gentle reminder that this is still just the prologue. The very beginning of
The Dark Crown.
Safe to say, this will be a work unlike any previous, ever done.
